Lambskin leather is made from young sheep, and it’s the tanning process that makes it so special. The skin is much smoother and softer than many other types of leather because of its fine-grained surface, this is why it is a more luxury material for fashionable bags, shoes clothing and accessories. For example, Chanel timeless bags or Lady Dior bags. Also, the lambskin is very durable and can last for decades if taken care of properly
It’s very soft to the touch, is more porous and contain more grains than other types of leather. But because it is more porous it tends to absorb more liquid and moisture which is a disadvantage of the leather as it can create mould. You must be very careful of rain, lotions, or leftover makeup. We would recommend silicon-free waterproof protection which you can use at home.
Be careful about cleaning lambskin leather at home because you can create stains or change colour of the bag. First use clean cloth to take off the grain and when you use products always try them out on a small invisible area first. If you have stains or discoloration already on the bag it is better to contact us, and we will help you to save your bag.
Lambskin is lighter compared to other leathers, very fragile and can get scratched or damaged due to improper case. Also, incorrect storage might create wrinkles. Please read our previous article about how to store bags properly.
Lambskin is very sensitive especially brightly coloured bags. Many times, in our bag spa, we deal with clients who wear dark clothes with bright bags which causes dye to transfer and leaves dark stains. We have a special treatment to protect your bag from dye transfer.
